We used to use it for my father old cleaning co, we had 5 office staff, Dad - boss, me and an other on operations and 2 on sales. it worked very well in keeping all involved on what was said, emailed and sent in post etc etc.

Have you looked at Jobber?
Not familar with what products run on Macs, but have you investifgated your existing software first ? Many have inbuilt CRM and what you DONT need need is multiple customer databases (and associated duplicity of data entry)
For example (for us);
Outlook email client, which can connect (or import/export via IIF) to Quickbooks (or Sage or Xero) which can connect to Operation scheduling packages like Jobber (or Qxpress or SAP). And, all have their own inbuilt CRM options
Also worth looking at cloud based ReallySimpleCRM (which has a free option)
If you're looking at an iPad solution, I'd ensure it's cloud based so you can access from other sources, otherwise it may be locked into a propriety solution.
The Holy Grail is ONE database (athough the above does not strictly achieve this, data can be easily 'shared' between Outlook and Accounts via a couple of clicks).
It may not seem a major issue now, when you increases client numbers or the number services offered, the matrix of complexities rises...and rises :(
I found that unless you have someone desk based, updating it realtime its uses can be limited especially if you have invested £££ in dedicated software.
