A man in his 30s remains in a critical condition today after falling into a lake on the Royal Estate at Sandringham.
Police said the groundsman was driving a ride-on mower before he plunged into the water at around 1.30pm, suffering what paramedics described as “life threatening” injuries.
Rescuers dragged the man from the Lower Lake, close to Sandringham House, where the Queen had met members of the Welsh Corgi League half an hour earlier in the walled garden.
Buckingham Palace said the Queen, who was on an unpublicised private visit to her Norfolk retreat, was aware of the accident on the lake.
In an update on the investigation issued this afternoon, Norfolk police said: “Police and the Health and Safety Executive are continuing to investigate an incident at Sandringham yesterday, in which a man was critically injured.
