rover mower. 2 blades or 4?

So just bought a 20 inch rover self propelled mower and was wondering do those of you that run these do so with the 4 blades fitted or just 2?

Tried it out on long wet grass today and was pretty impressed with it. Also i like the quick hose connection for washing the underside of the deck!

  • We use Rover 20" mowers also and always use 4 blades, i find it gives a better cut and if one blade gets damaged youve still got 3 working. The dealer told me the only reason they sell them with 2 blades attached is because of noise regulations.
  • I presumed 4 would be better but the boy at cyril johnstone said ''if you put the 4 blades on it will vibrate a bit but will suck up anything.'

It was a poor choice of words on his part as i then thought it maybe was better to leave it on the 2 it was supplied with if it going to vibrate more. To be honest i'm not real keen on Cyril johnstone and was going to get it from moores up the road but i needed one ready built to use the next day so paid the few quid extra.

    Thanks for the reply.

  • Cyrill Johnstons seems to have gone downhill a bit in the last few years, first they stop selling Echo, then Countax and Westwood, now they have very little decent machinery in stock. Apparently they are an Etesia dealer but when i went in they only had 2 domestic mowers in stock. If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for your Rover and what model was it?
  • ROVER 861M107 POWER-DRIVE LAWNMOWER

The afore mentioned and i got it for 510 with a fair bit of haggling. Have you been to Moore's up the road a bit? they are a much easier lot to deal with and the main man has forgotten more about garden machinery than i ever knew.

I was in last week to get a new chain for my saw (which i bought from him along with a blower and a few other bits) and the guy in front of me handed him a worn looking blade and he looked at at and said, 'hmm that's off an 82 massport isn't it?' to which the guy replied 'aye it is i have her in the boot of the car.'

Whilst it seems a bit agricultural, they are certainly in touch with the contractor end of the market than johnstoners who seem to be heading more and more towards wealthy homeowners than trade.

Where have you bought any machinery?

  • Most of my tools are Stihl. i get them from Cathcarts in Lisburn. the only thing i still get from Cyrills is Rover mowers or spare parts, i usually buy a new one every 2 years. I havn't been to Moores before, i'll have to check it out.
