There aren't that many criminals who come with a conscience. To them it's a job and it carries rich rewards and apart from just a peculiar few, they remain detached from emotion.

I also think that thieves consider businesses to be fair game and that they are carrying out victimless crimes because they think everyone's covered by insurance.

The reality, as many of us have discovered first hand and what Jill, Simon and Mark have endured this week, is all too different. Forget the financial loss, the trauma can be severe but also the ongoing pressure as schedules are ruined and profit lost due to overruns and increased costs caused by the theft.

Someone has to meet the police (if they choose to turn up) and fill in paperwork and make phone calls and it isn't easy being in two places at the same time.

There has got to be an insurance company somewhere who can create an insurance policy that will offer the right cover?

I am going to talk to Jasper, of Simply Business, next week and see if we can get someone of authority within one of the insurance companies they deal with to have a look at the two threads we have running currently and explore the possibility of providing the landscaping industry with a no-nonsense insurance policy that does what it says on the tin.
  • I think this idea could be benificial to both parties.
