Roadside Safety

I've passed a company doing roadside verge work a number of times over the past week. This company have been extremely cautious over their safety by deploying 3 large Grass cutting signs on the approach from each direction, along with further signage on the vehicle and an array of flashing beacons. Despite this company taking all these extra measures it still just takes one numpty. The van that struck the tractor was carrying pipes on the roof which ended up through the drivers cab. Luckily on this occasion neither was seriously injured, but it just goes to show no matter how careful you are there's always someone out there willing to test it. Take Care.

    Wow!

When I first saw the photo I thought 'that's just a little tap'. Then I saw the scaffold poles through the cab of the tractor. The tractor driver was extremely lucky.

Yes very lucky, hopefully the van driver will be prosecuted for carrying an unsafe load.

It serves as a timely reminder to all that the security of your load remains the responsibility of the driver! In the case of larger companies they may also be deemed at fault for not ensuring adequate safeguards are in place!

Not to long ago I saw a floor saw in the back of a Transit tipper. It was just rolling about all over the show! Couple of times it came close to coming out!

Then just the other day I saw another tipper van which had two small stacks of bricks in the trailer. Instead of laying all on the floor, they had two stacks 3ft high with a ratchet strap over. Goes around a tight bend to quickly and suddenly both stacks have flown across the load bed. That would be interesting to explain to the insurer!
