    Hi Steve,

This is what we use: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ATV-Folding-Aluminium-Motorbike-Motorcycle-Ra...

We have a pair per van, which makes it easy if single crewed.

Off ebay, at under £100 per pair, they're lightweight ally, that fold in half and importantly they are curved so you don't ground out the mower at the top as you go onto/into the flat bed part of the van.

Unless you've got a really heavy piece of kit don't go overboard on the one peice long steel ones. Hope that helps, Gary

Steve, whats the 'ground to tipper bed' measurment ?

I might be able to mimic this at the yard using pallets and see if we can drive our Etesia up the ramps to that height.

The biggest problem will be the higher the vehicle the more extreme the angle will be off the ramp on the flat bed which causes the mower deck to ground out and lift the wheels up.

That's where these type of ramps can help as they are curved on the top half (..does that rambling make sense .,.?)
  • Ha ha Yes that "rambling" makes sense.
I saw a transit tipper the other day with the exact same ride on mower as me, so it must be ok to load ride on mowers onto!
You dont have to go to all that trouble gary, with regards to pallets etc, thanks though i appreciate that.
I suppose the longer the ramp the easier it will be to load a ride on to?

  • Got no where to store a trailer, a tipper is quite a bit higher than a normal closed back transit. This is why i am wary of buying the right ramp for the job. I see quite alot of tippers with ride on`s on the back but not sure what ramp would do the job best for my requirements.

steve a van but not sure with a tipper , i guess tippers are higher than a transit , if its the case you will need a pair of long ramps , best to buy a trailer with a drop ramp etc , this is the best way
  • I got mine from http://www.theramppeople.co.uk/ - Very impressive service. Might be worth a quick call to them and tell them your requirements.

    Steve,

Checked best I can and the ali ramps mentioned will not work, they are ok into a panel van (Transit & Traffic), but marginial on Cabstar - you can't easily get over the hump at the top.

I assume the bed of a tipper is higher and will be more of a problem

We can get things like out C8 rotivator up (..as it's only two wheels) and Hayter Ranger 53s (..as you can help 'lift' it over).

Looks like you will need longer ramps as others have indicated
  • Certaintly looks that way! I have an 8 foot ramp i use for my push along mower and even that looks like a steep climb for a ride on!
Think i need at least 9 foot ramp so its not too steep. Thanks for looking for me, i am still trying to look through the net for something suitable but no luck!!

Along with other suggested makers, try here http://www.sararamps.co.uk/loadplant.html .....I remember them from SALTEX show
  • I just found this link,
The ramp looks like it can be 9 foot long. Does this look like something i need?

    Steve,

It might be, my only comment is the photo used shows a ride-on without the cutter deck, which makes it look like plenty of clearence.

I didnt realise that the ramppeople are in my neck of the woods (Godalming, nr Guildford).

Given your location, could you pay them a visit to discuss, try etc ?
