Great idea Benjamin and hats off for taking it on!Top 5 mowers no problem but 10 hmmm ....have to take time to consider(and no doubt bore my better half to death!)
How many people have used 10 different lawnmowers?
People might struggle to name 10 of things, maybe top 3 or top 5,i like a mower, (running a garden co) but i can say i couldn't name 10 of differing models etc etc, i probably only used 3 or 4, great if your an engineer for a garden repair company or the like.

Top 5 Petrol 4 wheeled rotary mowers you would buy for £1000.00 ?
Same as Andy, our main mowers are viking 755s which retail about £1400 so you may want to consider raising the £1000 limit......
The £1000.00 is one of many pricing brackets e.g. £400, £600, £800, £1000, £1200, £1400+ i will need 5+ machines for each category, although personally if i was to buy a new mower it would be the Viking 755s if i was spending £1200.00 but there are many smaller companies with much lower budget ranges that look around for instance £400.00 and no google reviews/resources to buy a good mower for their budget, so the idea for using the pricing brackets is to allow for smaller business to know the best machines there budget will get them and as they progress up to spending £1000s of machinery they know what to buy, all based on reviews by professionals who use these machines, again the reason for pricing for new machines is, second hand machines prices vary to much, so i would be unable to give guide prices as such, maybe once I have established a list of new machines, i might consider pricing guides for 2nd hand machines, but its all about time.
Maybe its worth suggesting what machines you would buy and at what price range they fall into.
Hi Benjamin
first off this sounds like a fab idea but you have to wath that it is not complicated to much, both to give a review or to find one
would it not be a better idea to lay out a review structer were instead of every one trying to name as many mowers as they can (on here to start ith), they just offer there advise (so to say) on there preferd machine.
then they could take the time they would have spent to list machines on instead giving there preferd machine a star rating out of 5 in working condition / support from the manufacturer / build quality etc etc
most people in the pro world will only use a handfull of machines and most of them will be from when they first stated up knowing very little about machines, or starting as cheep as possible to build up to the better equipment.
you will find that on this site most people now have settled on a brand they like for what ever reason and so it would take a real good reason to change from that.
personaly i would rather see 1 good indepth review on a machine from some one who has used and spent there hard cash on it than a list given out of thinks and maybes on a product because some couldnt list 5-10 machines withing that price bracket.
also i would not use a price to groupe machines either i would use something like i have written below.
WALKBEHIND / RIDE-ON
walkbehind - width of cut
walkbehind - push or powerd
walkbehind - cut n collect or mulch or both
walkbehind - roller or not
walkbehind - cylinder or rotoray
ride-on - width of cut
'' '' - hydralic drive or mechanical
'' '' - high lift or low tip
'' '' - accessories available or no extras
'' '' - 4wd or 2wd
'' '' - cylinder cut or rotoray
list the machine in the catagorys which describe the machine
doing it only on price would see you putting machines in a section when they are not anything like each other only on price, and if price is some ones only motivation then i would forget about any machine over the 1k price, which in turn rules out many many types of pro machines
just a thought
