Resin Drive repair advice

I have recently had a resin bound driveway laid in my own driveway as part of a make-over to finally have a garden worthy of a Garden Designer.
The team were great, but the supplies delivered ran out part way through laying, so it was a 2 part job, we now have a join line in our pristine new surface, something that really grabs our attention as we leave the house, but can't be seen from the road.
We have been offered some solutions, mostly involving cutting out the area and putting in something else; brick course, lights, a different colour, none of which we like.
Does anyone have any experience of taking up the surface and relaying? or any advice of how to resolve this issue.

  • Ouch.. I feel your pain karen.

other than taking up the whole surface and re laying all at once i don't think there is much you can do. I believe if you patch it up etc you are always going to notice something there.

I know its something you do not like the sound of however I would run an edging course of bricks through the joining line parallel to the front boundary and infill that section with brick pavers. I know that doesn't sound of much interest but other than having the company back to do it all again properly in one go as its meant to be done then i don't think there are many other options.

I am surprised there isn't a joint fluid that blends the two sections together. In fact I'm sure there must be something out there. However i think it will still be visible.

  • Thanks Matt,
They have at least admitted that it is a situation that could have been avoided with the right amount of materials and not two jobs on at the same time. we haven't paid yet so are negotiating a discount at this very moment. with a hope they may relay.

  • Thats good to hear.. I hope it all works out ok for you.

  • The latest is they have offered to relay the surface with a 12mm layer on top of the existing. They will lift our pavers around the outside so they are flush with the resin. Cutting out areas at the top of the driveway, we only have a brick and half under the DPC left in places, but I'm hoping that would be ok.

  • Yeah thats sounds like a good result to me.. I know its a bit more work.. and as long as they don't block up any kind of air bricks that can be found down at that level it should be perfectly fine.
