when replacing any pull cord you must ensure the coil spring stays in place when removing the housing of the pull cord, if this springs out there will be plenty of swearing trying to coil it back up and get it back into place.
other than that changing cords is a simple job
It's a fairly simple job............ have a look on Youtube....... there's bound to be a video on how to do it. Usually, the "pulley" cannot be lifted off so you shouldn't have a problem with the spring coming out. .
Did you wind the pulley round a few times to create tension on the spring so it recoils the cord back in ?
Did you watch a youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLwEklOr_0s ? Worth checking you followed the instructions for tensioning up the spring etc.
