Sorry everyone I've just found a load of threads on this very thing!,
  • I have got some really good regular jobs from rated people and some one off's. On the flip side I have spoken to alot of time wasters. I would say it's worth being on if you have space in your diary. I have not been selfemployed for long so it's been a great help and now when I buy leads it helps that I'm 5 star rated.

I do find that some people seem to have very unrealistic ideas about how much a job is worth/cost. I try to weed them out from reading the leads. Saying that I have also upsold a few. Also from what I understand I can put my account into a dormant state (over winter or when I'm fully booked up) so during this time I will not have to pay a monthly premium and will retain my reviews.
  • How much do these leads cost? What's the average job value?
  • Leads are a percentage of the price bracket however it's a sliding scale so the percentage reduces as the estimated value of the lead increases. It starts off around 5 percent.
I have not got around to working out the average value just yet. However rated people estimate that 1 in 4 of the leads purchased will result in a job.
  • Each to their own, but i dont like these type of online job lead businesses. all they seem to do is let the software connect you to leads and take a sizeable cut and subscription fee for the privilege. i wont use them on principle, but if i was short of work for a length of time i may consider them as a stopgap but nothing more. Just my opinion!

  • Ben...similar feelings here too.

Alternatives are Freeindex which is exactly that - FREE - and you invite your current/existing/long term clients to post reviews of your business after you've taken the time taken to create your profile page for them to do it on.

Clients post reviews of your hard work.....Google spiders come along and see 'endorsement on the web' for your business......and you work your way up the Google rankings, ready for the next potential client to search a term for your business activities and hit on your company for contact.

Stuff the Trusted Trader etc fee is my motive :->

    Cheers, Eugene

  • Haha, power to the people Eugene! Yes, its a shame that companies exist just to take a cut from the public and service providers alike, but the internet is awash with them! Like you say, freeindex is good, i use it myself!

Sorry to be thick but could either of you explain free index a little more. Many thanks Richard.
I not short of work at the moment booked solid for 7 weeks at the moment but January and febuary are usually a problem ( ie at home like other I suppose?) I have saved for this but it would be good to get out for a couple of days a week after new year to keep busy and bring extra cash in maybe to upgrade equipment etc. would also make a good start to the year.
