  • Spend your money advertising elsewhere.
I have been a member before and while I think it is a good idea in principle it is too expensive and you spend far too long with time wasters that you have had to pay to contact.
  • I've been a Rated People member for a few months now and true it can be expensive but if you cherry pick your jobs and don't go silly then you can do ok. I have had quite a few jobs this way and gained some good referrals as a result. I only take on the smaller end of the general maintenance and clearence jobs at the moment so thats probably why its worked out reasonably well for me, if your into larger projects then i would'nt bother.
If a posted job gives a reasonable amount of information then the client is more than likely genuinely looking for work to be done, thats certainly my experience so far. Those jobs that just say 'need grass cut' or 'want turf and bark laying' but no indication of garden size, access or such like then best to give a wide berth.

Please feel free to discuss Rated People and pass on your experience of the service but please be mindful of the words that are used to describe the product - please state that 'this is my opinion' or 'in my opinion' - it is not acceptable to use words that suggest this service is improper.
  • I have a huge issue with ideas like this.

I don’t see it as a sustainable business model – it’s easy duplicated and anyone can run something like this with bugger all expertise in any field. Therein lies many potential problems.
I don’t think that the rating system is of any use
I don’t think that the rating system could be considered as subjective or quantifiable
And as the rules and regs change is there anyone within this company capable of understanding and ensuring that all aspects of the rating people experience will be updated? I think the answer is probably NO!

Word of mouth was always the way it used to work, so what’s changed? Oh there's now a fee involved...Sorry but I'm out.
  • Rated People isn't prefect you just need to work it to your advantage. If you need to purchase leads it isn't a bad site if you are selective and shrewd.

There are other ways of generating new business for your money but if you want a quick one off job then it can be quite profitable.
  • I had a look at it and generated a few test leads and the closest to me was boston lincs and I am in norfolk so no good for me.
I also found their price per lead and a charge on top extortionate, I have experience with lead generators as my husband is signed up to a few for his removals business. None of them charge a monthly few and the most expensive lead is £2.99 a lead. We stear clear of more expensive versions as you dont get as many leads and most computer generated leads are just testing the water. I would say that roughly 1 out of 70 turn into an actual job.
Leafleting and word of mouth have always produced more work for both of us.
  • Thing is there are more similar websites which means the market is spread out too thinly to make it financially worth a go for me. I know at least 3 sites where local potential customers advertise jobs in this way. I'm not paying 3 sets of subs to try and get these jobs!

RP is uselss, if you want to pay £40 a 1/4 PLUS average £10 a "lead" to get a catflap, 1 fence panel replacement, quote along with 5 others.... no, not worth it.
