Old turf would be sprayed with roundup to destroy any perennial weeds, and then the old layer of turf will br removed (once every weed has been destroyed). All waste will go into a skip
Soil improver will then be added (about 1/2 m3 for this size) and the entire area rotovated. Soil improver helps with drainage in clay soils and helps with water retention in sandy soils as well as feeding the new turf in the first year.
The area is raked and levelled, surface stones removed. I would return around one week later, rake, level and remove more stones.
Premium turf (Q-Lawn) is then layed, working off of scaffold boards on the turf, never walking directly on either the turf or the prepared ground. After the turf is layed then the scaffold boards would then be used to heal in the joins.
The final step is to water. An area of this size will need around 1/2 m3 every day for the first month or so.
My pricing always seems on the high side compared to others but there is loads of prep work that is carried out and I always work to the highest of standards. Never had any problems yet :)
Just trying not to over or under price in the current climate. On the other hand could i see them getting there own hands dirty? NO
general purpose ,winter...£0.99p a roll,ok for an orchard or alike........top lawn turf,we have a deal for £1.25 a roll (we are long term customers), we would then punt out at £2.00 and £2.50 a roll, still cheaper and better than garden centre turf.
did rowlawn just get bought out????? anybody rate q lawn?
I always assume that most of my potential clients would check the prices on the Rolawn web site and get an idea as to the price they would pay themselves.
Therefore using Rolawn prices. Top soil would cost £490 for 6 tote bags and 116 rolls of turf would come in at £445 Thats £936 Incl. of VAT.
As a general rule of thumb, I would then double the material prices to give me the fully inclusive price, so looking at around the £2K mark. For this price I would include 2 to 3 inspection visits and the 1st mow.
However if undertaking the work by myself rather than a two man team then probably I would bring the labour rate down to around £400.
The profit on the job would be the mark up on the materials About £600 but you will need to take off any costs for chemcials, rental charges and waste disposal you should then still manage to retain a nice little profit to put to oneside for the winter or reduce the price if you must. However "profit" seems to be a dirty word and how many of us actually factor in a profit margin per job?
With reference to turf prices, Rolawn retail price for 116 rolls would be £3.84 (Incl of VAT) and I would probably be looking to pay around the £2.50 - £2.90 (Incl of VAT) region, saying that the last few orders from them have been very disappointing and I have to question thier quality. Q-Lawn is about £1.50 - £2.00 (Plus VAT) per meter and I think is a better quality. Top soil prices depend on quality and supplier but by trailering it in yourselves will save a bundle.
your not digging old' turf off then?
£999 all in (shropshire price) 2 people 2 days turf £500
