Try Lifothin stuff, its expensive but good. Heres the link to the natural stone products page.

Thanks Kieran,
Looks good, I'll give it a go this week.

Be careful putting mortar acid on sandstone it can sometimes leave an even worse stain. Haven't tried the lithofin stuff but have used their tiling stuff and they make good products so should be good. Might be worth double checking with their technical support first though?
Thanks Simon,
I have their number and will hopefully call tomorrow. Just a couple are affected so can be replaced if needed, but would be great to save the hassle!
I found out about Lithofin because I treated some sandstone with brick acid. It went rusty, as the acid can bring the iron content to the surface. The old post is on here somewere, about 2 years old.
I found that old post that Paul suggested using lifothin, but I was unsure about the PVA aspect.
The price of metal keeps rising so if it brings iron to the surface I might be able make some cash :)
Thanks again guys
