    Bad drainage? compaction?  Possible pest or disease, but feels like winter wet to me.

      Yep, to add to this

      Yellow patches looks like something has been sat on lawn for a couple of days. 

      Bare patches, was there weeds that have been pulled out?

      Algae suggests it's water logged
