Preparing and seeding a lawn

Hi priced a new build to prepare soil and seed new lawn, we priced for heeling and raking all stones off, applying pre seed fertiliser, getting a slight fall for water movement, seeding and coming back to overseed a 312m2 area and estimated £900 as being ex greenkeepers at golf course we know how long this takes and a ryegrass seed. And guy put a price in of £330? Any ideas how can be that much difference?

I would suspect lack of soil preparation for the cheap quote. Your price is reasonable I feel. It's easy to rotivate soil and not compact and level it, perhaps that's whats being offered? You can only highlight your professional aspects of the job and respectfully suggest comparative quotes are qualified against that to best ensure the lawn's longer term benefits and appearance. If you are dealing with the developer, maybe they are after a quick fix/slap on some seed for a few quid and job done!

How many days are you needing for the work? Do you know how many are being stated of the cheap quote?

Recent work for domestic customers with poor state lawns on new builds a year or so on from purchasing, I have found the lawns are based on poor subsoil and usually a mix of builders rubble with a sprinkling of soil!

    • It's a new build and digger driver was spreading the soil hence the reason we added few extra hours on to prepare.

Only you know how bad the site was and the other people who quoted too hopefully:)
I think they simply have got it wrong or are just giving a quick rake and seed.
Let them get on and move to something else
    • Yeah that's it, we priced fair to get a perfect surface. Was just checking to see what thoughts were cheers
  • monies on quick rake and bang seed down thats what they quoted to do
