I had a quick search on the forum, but didn't find anything...

Have any of you done postal drops in the past for leaflet delivery.
What did you pay for the service / how many flyers ect / Did you use royal mail or a private company?

Robbie, if you wanted to use Royal Mail you will probably have to book it 6 months in advance. They have very strict presentation and booking in procedures. You could go for an insert in a local paper but bear in mind that your leaflet will be others and are quite often scooped up and binned or recycled by the homeowner.
Look up "Door drop" on google.

You could do a selective drop yourself, targeting specific houses and missing out others that appear unsuitable.

  • I did do a write up in the old KBO group and wonder if Phil could extract this from the deleted group as it covered most of you questions ans more.
  • I had a guy email me offering his services for door to door leaflet delivery. We agreed a price and a date for delivering 2000 leaflets but the lazy sod never turned up! You could try putting an ad on gumtree requiring a leaflet deliverer, you might get some kids interested in earning a few pound.

Chris I would have a few trust issues with that, I would much prefer to buy x amount and know they will get delivered

  • I used to do random checks for a delivery company so I thought they were reliable. How wrong I was.
Annoying as they charge around £30 a thousand. Leaflets usually go out with 4 others, estate agents etc. You can pick the area down to 500 houses. A lot of their business was regular customers who maybe wanted 50, 000 delivered through out the year. For me wanting to get delivery within a 2 week time slot was too much for them.

I called a couple of other services but they would not deliver for gardeners or gutter cleaners. (Bit miffed at being lumped in with gutter cleaners).

So its back to doing it myself having wasted a lot of time.

  • I used to do my own - found it was far more effective - and if you have diary gaps you are putting them to good use and not spending money you dont need to.

Depending on the area - how large the houses are etc, in a 9-5 day with 20 mins lunch I could deliver anything from 600-1200 leaflets... Long driveways slow you down!

Rather than getting them all out in one go, aim for perhaps 1000 a week, then you have a steady stream of leads coming in vs a glut.

  • I booked a local business (a small family business) near me a good few years back. We arrange what area I wanted doing and when. As I had other customers in these areas I could check with them if a flyer of mine had come through the door. When the time period they were supposed to be delivered past I called them to see what was happening. I was told they had been away on holiday (which they had told me), so my flyers had not got delivered as arranged. Lesson learnt, so now if I do any sort of flyer drop I do it myself.
