In recent weeks there have been reports of Gates being stolen from rural properties. At risk are field, paddock gates, garden gates as well as ornamental driveway gates (metal/wood). In one instance a set of large electric wooden gates valued at £15k were removed. One set of ornate metal gates was also valued at £3-4k. Unfortunately, one resident was also a repeat victim. Thieves appear to strike overnight although in some cases there’s been a delay in noticing that the gates were missing
The following areas have been hit: Dunsfold (Chiddingfold Road, 3 field gates), Wormley (Combe Lane, garden gate), Farnham (Runwick Lane, Stable doors), Tilford (Sheephatch Lane, metal gates), Milford (Sandy Lane, garden gate), Tilford (Tilford Lane, wooden gates).
Many rural thefts are planned in advance, criminals may check out a property in a bid to assess security and property and it is this that you can help us with. It is also important to record any identifying features, take photos and serial numbers of items of value and keep them as secure as possible. Please be vigilant and take index numbers of any suspicious vehicles. Hopefully by working together in this way we can prevent these rural crimes from happening. Police are urging residents to report anything suspicious at the time on 101 or 999 if there’s an emergency. Police patrols have been stepped up.

Throughout March we continue to receive reports of Plant Machinery Theft (and attempts). At risk are rural building sites, usually hire machines left on properties undergoing building work or left unattended on the roadside. The thefts usually occur overnight. The following areas have been hit. Godalming (Elstead Road, agricultural equipment, slurry reeler), Haslemere (Petworth Road, attempt theft of an excavator), Farnham (Compton Way, attempt theft of a dumper truck). Diggers and attachments, Tractors, All Terrain Vehicles, Wacker Plates and Breaker units are proving attractive items for thieves who usually operate overnight. Police patrols have been stepped up. Police are urging residents who are having building work done on their property to report anything suspicious at the time on 101 or 999 if there’s an emergency.
