Hi there Stephen.
Thanks for the reply. Which price did you notice as I dropped a boo boo and worked out the exchange rate incorrectly.
yes it is an ex rental model. The engine looks in imaculate condition.
The price is approx £508
I like my Viking 755 mower however if this a Pro scarifier then my Camon is the big daddy of scarifiers and did not cost me £500 3 years ago via E-bay
There is one on e-bay at the moment for a buy it now of £400 Item number:271183592881
I was offered an Eliet for about that money, one owner and hardly used. Wish I'd bought it!
Ex-rental can be a bargain, or a waste of money. If you get it when it's newly-serviced and you know the seller then fine, but if it's being cleared because it's about to become a liability....
I'd say that you need to know and trust the seller, otherwise used machinery is a false economy. Could your usual supplier not find you a used machine, and you know he wants your continuing business so won't sell you a bad one?
I see you are in Germany - My local dealer will sell me a similar Viking machine (15" 5.5hp - LB540) new for £520 ish but if I travel 15 miles (to Telford Farm Machinery) I can get it for £405.06 inc VAT - I'm wanting a scarifier myself - it's a toss up between this and the Hayter - what's the availability of Wolf scarifiers like over there?
You say your local will sell you for £520 ish, is that the Viking with a plastic deck?
I will research the wolf machines as I had been looking at the Sabo pro range.
The pictured scarifier would have been purchased if I thought it was the sale of the century.
Priced at approx £500 I get the feeling that the general consensus is to leave it alone but hire it when necessary. It is a pity the dealer would not meet me half way with either a 90 guarantee or a further price drop.
They even have another exact same model however it is 12 years old and looks like its been to war and back. I guess it has had many a battle! ;-)
Paul I knw the dealer quite well as when I pick anything up we often have a coffee and a bratwurst and generally chew the fat.
But £500 is still £500 .
Thank you for all advice.
Regards
It may be worth doing the sums. How much does a hire machine cost you? Also, how much time does it take you to drive to the hire shop to collect, and drop it off again? If it takes 1hr in total, and the cost is £50, that's probably worth at least £70 each time. The £500 machine would get paid for in 7 scarify jobs, assuming you still charge the flat rate of £70 to the client as you would have done anyway (plus labour time etc of course).
7 scarify jobs could be made up in a week no problem. Even a couple of days depending on your books.
Dan thank you for your comment.
We had worked on a similar principle to what you explained in your reply.
The trip to the hire shop takes a good half an hour maybe 45mins in rush hour.
i definitely think you hit the nail on the head regarding the sums.
