What are people using for their hedge jobs? I've been using a Makita PTR2500, a Makita RBC2510 or a Tanaka TBC2211. None of these machines are my own, however, and I need to buy one. Trouble is, all of these machines are 8+ years old and I cannot find them for love nor money anywhere. ALL modern replacements are significantly underpowered by comparison, adding almost half as much time again onto my jobs. I've tried Stihl, Husqvarna, Makita and Tanaka and the engines wouldn't take the skin off a rice pudding - something to do with new emissions regulations I suspect.
I need to know what machines commercial people are using as the internet just keep suggesting machines suitable for one-off cuts in your back yard.
All help/suggestions appreciated! If you know where I could find one of the machines I've listed above, I'd be over the moon!

Ive not used the Matika you are reffering too and cant find any info regarding its power -- however the two main sthil kombi units are the KM 94 RC-E which has a 1.2 bhp output and the KM 131 R which has a 1.9 bhp output -- have never had any issues with the 94 not having enough power so have never so far used the 131 -- but cant see the 131 being under powered for pole hedge cutter / pole saw or any other attachments out there TBH
Are you wanting a pole pruner or a hedge cutter, the stihl km94 is light and quite powerful but does struggle a bit on thicker branches with the pole pruner the km 131 on the other hand has more power than you will need and does not bat an eyelid. If it's just for hedge cutting the stihl long reach based on the km94 engine is more than upto the job or get the kombi version.so I have no idea what stihl engines you have seen or used but these 2 are more than adequate for all I have thrown at them.
Hi I use an efco long reach trimmer wich I used to cut a lot of thicker stuff and use my stihl kombi trimmer for finer cutting like conifer. I found the efco reliable and a tough gearbox better built than the stihl.
Thanks all for responses. I have managed to find the last RBC2510 in the UK by going directly to Makita. I mostly trim hedges and the Makitas I mentioned before are just streets ahead of anything else I've tried - and I've tried a lot of options, including the Stihls that were suggested. I guess if you've never used one, you can't compare - maybe I was just spoilt with my first one!
With emissions being monitored closely, anyone got any input on possible battery powered options for the future? I'm unaware of anything commercially at present.
