Pergola bracket help!

I may be imagining I saw this, but does anyone know of or even where you can buy metal brackets for pergolas - they have a base plate that sits on top of your upright posts, then a thin vertically section on top of which is a U shape bracket into which slots your horizontal beams.

I have attached a really rough picture. I'm desperate to find them and am sure I have seen pictures of pergolas with them somewhere.

I know I could maybe go to an ironmonger but was hoping somewhere had them off the shelf.

many thanks

    Would joist hangers work Andy?

  • Not really what I'm after Phil, these are like a joist hanger but on a small steel upright with a square plate on the bottom. They look really smart and raise the height of the pergola beams. I wish I could find the picture I saw.

It's partly to give the pergola a different look but also trying to help a client who has posts but they are about 6 inches to short to get a good height! if I could find another way of making an oak post six inches taller that would do!

    OK, will keep looking:)

  • Seems to be a variation of these metal u-shaped post supports..(from an Oz supplier, unfortunately!)

Too ugly to be used as visible beam supports, I'd have thought.

  • Thanks all, very close! The ones I saw were in a nice stainless finish but pretty close in terms of design.

I can't raise the posts as they are already in met post fixings and are very tight fitting. i thought about putting the beams on the posts then the rafters on top but the beams would still only be 6 and half ft above ground level.

Why not talk to Fenland Phil: http://www.landscapejuicenetwork.com/profile/Fenlandphil

He might know where to look or may even be able to make something?

  • Thanks Phil, just picked up an e-mail, will have to refine the drawing and send it over. The power of the juice in full effect! great stuff.
