I've had good results on black algae on patios using Brintons MMC Pro. (Brintons Patio Magic is basically the same, just not as concentrated). Apply with a knapsack sprayer = a lot less hassle than pressure washing - and a tad quicker.
Lichens are easy to shift from indian sandstone with a diluted hypochlorite mixture. Powerwashing is good for overall grime but lichens need chemical treatment.
