Outdoor Kitchens, Pizza Ovens And Tv's

Hi Folks

I've just got a garden to design and the client wants an outdoor kitchen area which includes a pizza oven.

They also want an outside tv on a rendered wall.

Can anybody recommend any companies that offer the above at REASONABLE prices (preferably Up North too)?

Thanks in advance.

David

  • David, that would depend entirely upon what you consider to be "reasonable".

The outdoor pizza oven comes straight out of Fearnley-Whittingstall's "River Cottage" multi-series on TV. He made it clear that making one is labour intensive and takes time. If your client is thinking it needs a few bricks throwing together, the best service you can offer is to disabuse said client of any such pipedreams. It would be a great DIY project for anybody thinking of cutting costs, should they have the funds and the spare time. Fearnley-Whittingstall had a TV company to supply the funds and a veritable army of paid staff to put it together.

Almost every sporting venue today boasts a large screen both for replays and to see the action live if you don't have a good view of the pitch. When considering putting one in your own garden bear in mind how big the screen needs to be, the H&S legal requirements for running permanently wired electrical and electronic equipment outdoors and the costs of supplying such. Again, fine for an adequately equipped DIY enthusiast with sufficient means but to take it on as a commercial proposition, the insurance caveats would require a specialist company with adequate cover to take on the risk, or an absolute barmpot. Recommendation: don't go with the barmpot.

I suspect that even the most "reasonable" quote will have a few zeros on the end.

    • Hi Mike

The pizza oven is going to be a ready made object - no bricks involved!

All I'm doing is providing a 3D image of what the area is going to look like with all the hands on work done/supplied by specialists.

By reasonable, I mean a barbecue grill that does not costs £thousands before any granite worktops etc. are in place.

Having a quick look on the internet I can quite easily envisage it ending up as standard free-standing barbecue units slotted in between worktops etc.

      • OK so how is this oven to be heated? Insulated? Weatherproofed? If powered by mains gas or electricity the same caveats as above apply.

What, exactly, is that newly added item "a barbeque grill" according to your client (or your design if more appropriate)? More pertinently, is it to be fuelled by charcoal, bottled gas, mains power or "other"? Grill from above or doing the usual USA over-egged inaccurate description so really it's barbeque only?

You may only be providing a drawing, but the installer needs to know exactly what they are expected to install. It can only be guesswork and certainly no more accurate to surmise "reasonable" cost for a job with neither specification nor adequate description.

David, lots of us here would love to be able to offer guidance and I for one would be interested to read some of the replies. If you get stuck for local suppliers, we at about an hour's drive away may be able to help. But we really need to know what the parameters are before we can even think of offering anything specific.

So far we have got as far as telling you to talk to AV companies about an outdoor TV.

    Hi David

I've got a pizza oven. It was supplied by the Stonebake Oven Company.

    I did a review here: http://www.landscapejuice.com/2012/08/review-primo-60-outdoor-oven-...

    Hi David,

It may be worth contacting Steve @ London Stone on LJN as they have an outdoor display kitchen setup at their West London showroom, which has various pieces of cooking equipment. I can visualise it, but can not remember exactly what is installed.

He may have some suppliers he can point you to...
