Is anyone aware of ANY form of simple online, self paced landscape related training in the UK, like they have the US ?
I am not talking about Online long term NVQ training or Garden Design schools, just basic training... maybe subject lead ?
I'd love to see a simple online tests that potential job applicants could take as part of their application (bit like the Driving license or PA1 test)
I've just been reviewing CVs where we have asked for specific knowledge / skills and applicants are very cagey at giving straight answers. I'd love to point them a basic test before committing time to caling them in for interview and trying to get to the truth.
Also, taking Pesticides as a topical example, why are there no online options (?) to carry on with CPD and/or add extra modules once you have your PA1/PA6 etc ?
Take the PA6AW or PA6PP example - surely once you've gained initial certification, it should be easy to extend it via self training / certified tests without spending ridiculous amounts of money and a day off work for simple extension. You've already proved you've got the nuance to do it !
We also seem to spend all this money training and gaining certifications, perhaps now someone needs to 'police it' !
We do make our industry hard at times !

You're talking about 'joined up thinking' Gary, the more you look & read about the world, the more crazy you realise it is!!!
Must remove those rose-tinted glasses :)
In fact to be fair, I see a business opportunity for you or the LJN
Very good idea Gary, well said. An online courses that could be started at ant time and that would give either foundation or more advanced an Continuing Professional advancement is long overdue. I would be very interested in taking part in courses like that.
Here's a taster video as to what the US guys have access to via PLANET/NALP (these are certifiable online courses). Accessible to anyone (for a cost) but relevance in UK is somewhat suspect due to their standards, geography and approaches, etc
That would be great if we had decent online courses which do not cost the world.
The PA1 etc courses would be a good place to start.
