Just some initial thoughts;
I think the 'trade' has to accept the situation and prepare for price increases to cover such loses.
Perhaps the Landscape Architects/Designers need to review their approved plant lists and ensure we have sensible, hardy options being specified (and hence stocked)
Perhaps a Press Release from HTA (?), Nursery CoOps etc setting out the issues and the consequence such that we have supporting evidence to show clients when selecting/questioning prices.
Phormium growers have been hit with high losses too.

From some Growers we have heard of figures of around £100,000 worth of losses through Winter damage.
For ourselves, and it's still not totally clear, 10-15% of stock lost.
