It looks to me like it is rye grass.. a turfing expert will be able to help you a lot better than i can but i don't think its anything to worry about.. its part of the mix.
Based on my limited knowledge of turfing its fine.. i believe you quite often get rye grass in the blend of seed turfing companies use.
Regarding the yellow edges.. that is because it has been left un watered for sometime. Again I think you may be able to salvage it.
Water it everyday and it will be grand
The coarse lighter green stuff is annual meadow grass. If it bothers you, go around and pull it out before it roots properly if theres not much of it as its hard to get rid of and unsightly once it gets established.
I just turfed my own place 3 weeks ago. The yellowing at the edges is often because grass has been cut by the turf cutter and so its actually just sliced grass that is sort of mushed into the side of the roll by the harvester. Its will rake out if you try.
there is quite alot of it is it better to pull it out or use a dab on weed killer?
It's not the best expample of turf I have seen, but as long as you are not looking for a show lawn it will be fine. The different shade on the left is because the turf was rolled up for a day or two longer. Yellow edges are normally due to the ends drying out on the pallet before laying - sometimes the journey on the lorry will do this. A good company will cover the turf intransit. When the weather is hot and dry keep the unlaid turf covered during the laying process. Water the ground immediately before laying turf - we water just 3 runs ahead, then water as you go, leaving instructions for the customer to water every evening for the first couple of weeks.
Unfortunately its not as level as would have liked but was squeezing it in between jobs and doing it solo
When i did mine the supplier i use does a grade of fine fescue that is guaranteed free from annual meadow grass and all broad leaved weeds.
If you paid extra for a higher grade of turf then get some money back or discount on your next order.
Im not sure if being picky but as the supplier was shut I spoke to rolawn who said they wouldnt have sent it out like that so going to speak to supplier tomorrow
Id happily take it all up and return it to them and start afresh I used "quality" turf to avoid having to weed every m2 of it otherwise may as well of seeded it
plus the other irritating thing is having asked them several times on the phone when ordering and when collecting are they each 1m2 turves to be told yes to then find out that the majority of them were .97m2 thankfully I add a small % to the actual amount needed but was literally down to the last 1/4 turf to finish the lawn
