Need a decent axe

hello all

One of my customers i do trimming work for has offered me a few large trailers worth of felled trees for firewood for free :)

All i need to do is chainsaw it into logs then split some of the larger ones, so i'm after a decent quality axe for splitting logs.

can anyone recommend a quality axe for the job, one that will last a good few years.

thanks

  • Good for you, splitting logs by hand is the second most satisfying thing in the world...just put customers faces on top of each ring before applying your log splitting maul, which is what you need, not an axe, which is hard work to remove after each blow. It's like a sledge hammer with an axe point on one end. eghttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6lb-Log-Splitting-Maul-Axe-Wood-Chopper-H...

I bought mine from a 'shed' in Germany when i lived there 27 years ago and it has kept me warm and satisfied ever since...one shaft replacement after lending it to a friend!

    Sex comes third btw

  • Fiskars X27 is in my opinion the best splitting axe you can get, lightweight fibre comp handle, weight balance is perfect, blade has a non stick coating like a frying pan and stays sharp for ages, and it is so comfortable you can use it for hours.

  • I have a large selection of Gränsfors Bruks axes and I have to say there the nicest quality axes iv used, at the moment im using my Gransfors Bruks American Felling Axe 35" handle fells trees very easily. The splitting Maul makes log splitting a nice job to look forward to lol. I buy all my wood working tools from the site below. There quite expensive put good quality. They also give a 20 Year Product Guarantee.
