Mobile phone recommendations

HI all,The wife's mobile contract is up, and she's looking for a new one which is cut out for the rigours of garden installation and landscaping work. She's after something which won't break when dropped/sat on, which has a decent camera. What do you use on site?

  • iPhone all day long. Great personal organizer and easy to use. Best on market and makes easy work of running a business.

Nokia E51. Worst smart phone ever, don't get one.

Dust gets under the screen which then becomes difficult to view outdoors.
  • Just bought new Skype P.A.Y.G. phone on 3 (three).

£10 on-line top-up gets you 600 free texts, decent internet access + Skype (free internet phone calls).

The top up lasts 3 months and calls cost 2op per minute and texts 10p (3-to-3 calls are free!).

This phone cost £30 and is very light/plasticy, but if you keep it in an 'arm' zip up pocket like I do you are unlikely to sit on/damage it and you can talk to your missus all day for now't.

Iphones are great and have amazing apps etc. but cost a fortune to run and I personally would have to have an on-site safe to keep it in!
  • iPhone without a shadow of doubt, Dont be put off by the large screen this is one of the toughest phones I've had.
  • iPhone.

Skype, Internet, Mail, Facebook, Twitter, compass and a million free apps.
  • not a very good camera on i-phone :-(
  • Interesting stuff..I drowned a Nokia recently and am on my reserve phone at the moment, saw the JCB phone the other day and thought I might get one....I do like the way Nokia's operate though ?
  • I have always rated the Palm PDA (mainly for the Windows Mobile applications and Email) but it was a little big, however a few weeks ago I swapped this over for a Blackberry BOLD. At first I hated it but now know why it is referred to a "crack" berry.

It has a really neat shutdown mode when placed in its holder which saves the batt life. I reckon three days inbetween charges and I use the phone a lot. I have four email accounts set-up on it plus a few business apps and I reckon every five minutes the thing bleeps or rings!! Just can't put it down!! It is a nice size to fit in the pocket and so far has handled the bad weather and a busy working days. Camera is excellent and so handy for taking a quick before and after shot. Only draw back that it isn't a touch sceen but maybe that is a good thing as the Palm always played up on the touch sceen.
  • iPhone for me, in an iskin rubber case is great for outdoors work. A lot more robust than it looks. Touch screen operation is faultless.
  • Not sure if I can recommend it yet but Samsung Extreme B2100 using PAYG £70 all in. Tried to get a JCB or the Land Rover equivalent but got sick of the poor customer services so went with the much cheaper Samsung.

Never bother with the camera facilities on a phone I’d rather take a decent camera if I need images.
