Mildew on oak trees

Hi, a couple of mature oak trees in one of my gardens have really fallen foul to mildew this year, and their leaves are falling at an alarming rate. I am in the South East, and have not really experienced this before. I assume it has been due to the damp weather conditions? Does it do any lasting damage, and should I be looking at burning the leaves rather than composting as normal? It's odd that in a row of four or five oak trees in close proximity of each other, only two have suffered while the others remain mildew free!

  • Shouldnt be a problem if they are mature - The Oak in my garden has Droped 1/3 of its leaves by the end of AUG before now - Its the oak disposing of the useless leaves and saving its energy for those that work - some years mine gets hit others its fine. (It is circa 80 years). Given were past the bulk of the growing phase of the year its unlikely to cause too much harm now.

  • Mildew is generally a consequence of dry conditions and a lack of air flow, oaks are thirsty Individuals consuming up to 200 gallons a day. If you have a row of oaks then there is possibly a lot of water being taken and a lack of air flow causing the mildew.
