Noticed a couple of members have set their pages to private and with an obscure avatar and non - sense members name. Not sure about other members feelings, premium or freemium, but I don't trust this at all. This is supposed to be a forum for open and honest debate and advice giving. It just gives me the feeling of "an agenda" and secrecy...... or am I being paranoid ???? One things for sure though, from my own agenda, any member with a private profile set and a non - sense avatar name, they won't be getting anything from me.

  • Might be wrong here Brian but if the person is a free member we can't see their full profile.

  • Take a chill pill Brian.

    Read the post again lads.
Duncan c3po is cool and you show your name on your avatar
Kevin..... no it's not a joke.....you too also show your name on your avatar.
Graeme.... not questioning whether full profiles of members can be seen whether premium or freemium, I'm questioning profiles set to private and no proper name on a profile.
Mike...... I am perfectly chilled, so you can relax about it.

I brought this up after the discussions regarding freemium v premium, and a few members making the point about liking to be able to look at a members profile, to see who, what and where they are and operate from before answering their post or just having a look.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most of us like being part of LJN, whether freemium or premium members because its an "free and open" association. There is nothing free and open about a member with a non-sense name, obscure avatar and profile set to private. WHY would a member join up and withold ALL his / her information from everybody, this is my point.
And why would I / we other members give out what we do openly and freely to a "member" that does not want to share even their real name ?????????????? They are either members who got kicked off, members who left under a cloud and have come back as an AKA, or they have some other agenda. LJN is a free and open association of landscape professionals who share very freely, otherwise expensive information for all to gain from.
As I said above, lots of premium members commented on the lack of transparency of freemium members profile pages when the new paid for membership went live and all the members information was easy to access and available to all before Phil blocked a lot of it. Not saying I expect Phil to revert back to that, but I would like and fully expect all LJN members to share their proper name on their profile page. By all means use an avatar and nickname, but at least have your real name available on your profile.
If that's a problem to some members then I apologise, but I am sticking to my guns.......any member who deliberately blocks all their info on their profile page and fills it in with spurious crap and sets it to private, will get nothing from me.

  • I'm with Brian here. If you can't be bothered to give your real name etc. you will just get ignored by me. It's just rude IMO.

You can't stop people signing up with obviously false details, or no details, but you don't have to treat them as part of the community.

  • Yup me to. Why hide?

  • Is there still a section where you can see a list members? I see the link has gone from the top. It was very useful.

  • I haven't came across any yet but then again I haven't been paying too much attention to membership etc. but if what you say is true then yes it does sound a bit strange and you have make a very point observation / point.

  • Brian, Colin and Paul. Why drive a wedge between yourselves and other forum users ?
I am a member of a couple of other internet forums where many members have usernames other than their christian and/or surnames without it causing offence to other members. So i don't see why it should be a problem on LJN.

No wedge driving here, its only a couple Ive seen Mike. I just dont trust it and from comments made by other members re the freemium profiles they are not keen on it either.
  • Not at all about trying to "exclude" antyone.... If you join a forum, and actively refuse to enter any details, then you aren't giving anyone a fair idea about who you are or where your comments come from IMO.

This isn't about user names; you can call yourself anything if you want to. It's about refusing to give ANY genuine personal information in the profile as I understand it?
