Mcculloch chainsaws

Does anyone have an opinion on Mucculloch chainsaws, my sthil is dead and for the amount of tree work I do I can't justify a new one, was looking at the Mac 738 model which I found online for £120 inc delivery which I thought was a good deal, any thoughts?http://www.agmonline.co.uk/chainsaws/156-mcculloch-mac738-14inch-petrol-chainsaw.html

  • I have one and to be honest i would not get another due to unreliability and lack of power. I think you should stick with Stihl chainsaws.
  • when we hear that word we spit on the ground...
  • Speak to the guys on arbtalk, they know a lot about saws. They have recommended me a cheaper saw for my work which may involve trunks up to 8 inches or so, plus logging. Plus the test of course.
  • Stihl or huskys . Mcculloch are , at best , domestic . The others , if looked after , will last years ,
  • Mcculloch spares are difficult to get hold of in my area at least. They were bought out by another company I think. Oleo Mac are a good saw and cheaper than Huskey's.

I've owned and used many makes - here's my list in order of preference:

    Stihl
    Husqvarna
    Echo
    Oleo-mac
    Alpina
    McCulloch
Remington (little lopping saw - load of rubbish)
  • personally, I'd never touch a "cheap" one.......... even if you only use it occassionally, you'll then find it won't start when you want to use it!! If you're only doing odd bits and pieces on the ground, perhaps an electric one might do.......... at least it will always start.
  • Don't know what I was thinking of even suggesting a mcculloch to myself, suppose I was wanting to hear that they were the best saws in the world and that they were so cheap cause the people who make them were just very generous.
Might give this a try though, still a basic machine but good price

  • You can't go wrong at that price. Good set of features and the Huskey brand as well.

Dont think you can beat these guys and the service is apparently exceptional. Good luck with it. Whichever you go for.

Have to say my stihl 181 is probably my fave saw at the moment. super light plenty of oomph for most jobs.
