Hi. If its a brick chamber, yes removing 1 x course will hopefully give you the desired height needed. All depends on the condition if in any doubt you might need to rebuilt it or could use concrete lintels to strengthen/repair.
Could i also suggest you use a recessed chamber lid instead of the old concrete lid as will look a million times better.
Cheers
Thanks for the input, I am hoping it is as simple as removing a layer of brick.
We didn't suggest using a new recessed lid but the customer wants to keep it.
Unfortunately they are being very watchful of the project as a previous business had started the job then just simply disappeared and didn't return to complete it, they paved the full back garden and I must say done a great job but I just don't understand why they stopped and after a few weeks of the customer chasing them they called him 2days before Christmas and said we will be there tomorrow to finish the job.... obviously the customer wasn't happy with this.
No worries. Its amazing the number of companies doing botched jobs or not not turning up etc. We have done 4 x jobs like this this year compared to 4 in the last 9 years.
Customer service is part of the reason i hope we get some of our work. Answer the phone, do as you say and keep in communication etc.
At least the work that was carried out was decent!!
Was going to reply to your fence thread. I would always price to suit your needs. ie if you want/need the job the price is your price. If busy or can see it being a hassle factor this in.
I wouldn't worry or try and under cut others, as it is this that brings the cost down for us all! I have been to jobs where i cant buy the materials for what people are quoting for the complete job.Firm believer in "you get what you pay for"
In regards to the fencing prices I agree with you, I have now adopted the "well let them do it then" attitude to any quotes that are just simply a joke! We need a minimum £45pm to cover costs and make profit but always go in at £50.
have you or the client considered the paving will possibly need a drainage channel where the new paving meets the pavement to comply with the regs?
remove the cover and pop it back loose once youve done the alterations, then lay the paving around it. that way you can set the cover to match the paving exactly rather than trying to match the paving to the cover
Yes, luckily for us the previous installer that started the job had already installed a drainage channel so we just need to check if it's worth keeping or not.
Great advise for the cover that's what we was looking for! Thank you
