Lidl chain saw sharpener

Just thought I'd give a little report...got the last one from my local store for 19.99, more of a spur of the moment thing as I'm quiet happy to use a file and have done for the last 6 years or more...but we are all a bit prone to filing more to the left or the right ! and the worst bit of sharpening is taking stuff back past and dings or damage to square all the chisels back to same length past any damage...

Anyway..much to my surprise it's worked really well, once put together it's easy to set up and after sharpening two 3/8th 20 inch and 2 0.325 chains the results were as good as putting them in to be sharpened at a local shop (a friend does this so I can compare)...for me it's a great way to factory reset and recondition my chains in between hand filing and for the price it's a no brainer

I saw this at Lidl last week, thanks for the thumbs up

  • I got myself one of these as well. I had just picked up the new screwfix catalogue and noted they had one at around 3 times this price. I was in Lidl getting lunch and spyed this little gem for £20. Haven't used it but since I have been known to bodge sharpen a chain that i've used to cut roots, with a 2mm metal cutting disc in an angle grinder, I reckoned this has to be a step up. As Mark said, getting dings and mangled teeth back to form accurately is hard going with even a quality file. And as to replacement discs they have this web link : www.grizzly-service.eu Discs are order number 30211030. I plan to get a couple of spare stones/discs for it just now, as i'm unsure what the spares availability will be in the future.

  • I got one last year & forgot about it i'll get it out this weekend & try it, I don't use a chainsaw much but do have some chains that need looking at.

I've got one out of the cooper magazine that was £20 as well. It's probably the same thing with a different badge on it. It was fiddly at first as you have to remember to check the chain is in tight but it does make it much quicker when you're used to it.

  • this was a year ago.....

  • The thread was indeed a year old, however Lidl got these in again on the 1st of September this year. So I guess the topic is as relevant this week as it was a year back..

  • oh i must check in store ! cheers :)
