At the RM248 price, I'd say it's only meant for light domestic use rather than regular commercial work so breakdowns are to be expected. If you've only got £400 to spend, I'd be looking at a decent secondhand machine.... Hondas are pretty good if you can can find one on ebay that's had little use.
Cheap hondas are rubbish these days, nothing like they used to be.
Seems to be a common theme happening on here recently, whether it's hondas, hayters or sthil nothing is good as it used to be.
Perhaps that goes for life in general.
Cheap parts, cheap labour, increased profits. I dread to think what things will be like in another 10 years
Used Honda 476 hrx
a £400 mower isnt a commercial mower, its domestic machine designed to be used 1 a week or fortnightly.
like others have suggested try to pick up a domestically used honda mower, like the hrx476 try to avoid the commercially used ones as theyve probably been worked hard already.
You might be lucky I picked up a used Viking roller mower for £150 four years ago and it's never had a single problem .
Honda mower used if it has a genuine history , have had Honda's with issues which were very expensive to repair .
Local gumtree often has machines which have being serviced with history plus you can try them out when local .
Screwfix give a years warranty on most machines semi pro type machine might keep you going until you are in a position to upgrade .
A used machine like a Hayter might put you on .
I have a very very cheap cordless swift mower which gets alot of use on medium lawns and it's being fantastic for the money , just bought a new blade for it , most come with battery and charger ,spare battery £80 , best customer service I have ever received from swift u.k but it's not an all rounder machine a domestic cordless .
did a first cut yesterday whilst the going is good, used 3 different lawnmowers as it's a large garden with different type areas and to make as fast and easy as possible but achieve an exemplary finish,it's not one size fits all for me. I do not tolerate any unreliabiity in the machines. I managed to knock the self drive belt off my front wheel drive stihl when i bashed it against a garden wall last year but managed to finish the job, pushing it
cheers Buster yes luckily it was a small area but longish grass and thick mossy layer underneath so for once I actually broke a sweat. Stihl RMA 2 RT Mulch mower which I managed to get new for £300, I notice the new variable RV model costs almost twice that now. Often I just give the self drive a tickle to get it going, then basically push it, as it's the fixed speed model, steel deck but not heavy, definitely felt disadvantaged when that belt slipped off though. But generally a very capable little machine, especially when using AP300S battery

Push mowers can be a good option if on a low budget , no gear box to go wrong although a hard slog .
Still have a Toro recycler I bought new for £329 +vat and was my only mower for Two seasons when I started out and again never let me down , still gets regular use .and starts first pull .
