Lawn care - you must be joking !

Had an interesting call into the office this morning from a gentleman who wanted us to look after his lawn(s) - both for mowing and lawn care. Never the one to turn down an opportunity I asked him some basic questions about his needs. His answer, 'why don't I pop round round and take a look'... Given we (and him) are Surrey based, I felt stupid pointing out that there was little point given the 8-10inches of snow lying on most gardens around here. A slight pause at his end and he agreed it might be better if I came after the snow. After his call I sat back and wondered did I miss something obvious !! I guess people are stuck at home looking for things to do

  • maybe hes 'thinking in advance' or do u mean timewaster - if u saw him u could decide !

make the most of our time - but be sensible ........... funny

hes kean . your kean dont lose it !
  • If you haven't got anything much to do I would go, Introduce yourself, talk about what you can offer depending on the condition of the lawn etc and give a likely cost based on the size. Firm it up if need be after the snow has gone.

As Robin said you are going to get a feeling if it is a serious enquiry or not after meeting him. You never know it could be that he says yes to your basic proposal and job done.

Just phone him back and advise that you have to virtually drive past his door on other business in the next couple of days and could you call in.
Some people just wont wait, they get a bee in their bonnet and have to get it sorted.

    Good luck
  • Maybe your potential client doesn't like the colour of his lawn! ;)
  • lol - i have been doing quite a few things i'd rather wait' to do inc spend money (mainly)

but cant do 'nothing' so am trying to plan ahead and being positive .

why wait - i viewed a house to do a fence/quote - but no chance for 2-3weeks, but if i get it ill be ready to go and they will .

It was the fact he wanted us to address the condition of his lawn (ie weeds / moss etc) that made me smile, plus the fact we probably couldnt size/see his lawn anyway!

At the moment we are anything BUT quiet - everyone is out commercial gritting (even our lawn care guy) - 10+hours a day, several tons of rock salt a day. Our stocks are almost depleted but awaiting delivery scheduled last wednesday or thursday ..me don't think so, we will not see that till next week!!!
