Hi Tim,
Still looks like total 70cm wide. We use the bannerman ba4 (70cm wide) and find that will get through most gates / alleys. However, for narrow access, we also use an old sisis greensman which is just over 60cm, and find that gets pretty much anywhere. Both come up fairly regualry on Ebay - BA4 approx £600-800 and the sisis circa £500.
Did look at various 60cm hollow tine plugger machines - eg plugger pl 400, billy goat etc, and felt this type of machine would be practical for access. Seem to remember though many of them will only take hollow tines as the crank not strong enough for decent sized solid tines. Should be ok with pencil tines though.
However, given the hard use and wear / tear of getting these in and out of the vans etc, I've always struggled to justify new when you can get a robust used machine for almost 1/4 price. It's not like mowers which are knackered after 3-4 seasons max, the banerman and sisis will last.
Also depends on whether you always just want to hollow tine, or solid, chisel, fracture etc. All have their timing and place so good to have the option of different tines.
