Hedging Ladder/Platform

Hi All, am in my 2nd year of trading and seem to be picking up a lot of hedging work.

Am working off Hailo Profistep 'tripod' ladders - very heavy, but with adjustable height and leveling

for uneven surfaces. Have been wondering about alternatives or some sort of platform and wonder

what you guys find works best in a variety of situations - thanks - Paul

    3314779295?profile=RESIZE_1024x10243314778175?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024Love my Henchman platform, they are on LJN and offered a discount for members of the forum.  Nice solid feel to it and you can lean off it quite safely.  Copes well with most jobs, only issue I've had is where the footprint of the legs is too big to fit in a gap between sheds/greenhouses and the hedge.

      Thanks for advice - am looking into getting some - they look much more practical than a wider platform thingy ?! Will ebay my Hailo's which were bought for painting work - thank God I'm gardening now!

    3314775060?profile=RESIZE_1024x10243314780221?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024Henchman for me too - makes big hedges a lot safer and if you have a long run of hedge in a suitable located, they can always be securely clamped to a suitable trailer and towed along with a suitable vehicle.

    Mine is an 'old generation' made of steel and is considerably heavier than the new aluminium versions - also the extension kit for mine is now obsolete from the manufacturers, something which I keep meaning to ask my local fabricators to have a look at making up for me.

    As you can see in the photos above, sometimes an extension kit would be useful, although a metre and a half of extension poles on the long reach cutter got the faces done OK.

    Don't be too hasty in changing your ladders, I use and have done for 20 odd years hailo 2x9 +1x8 combi ladders and also Henchman tripod platform ladders etc and I gotta say if I could only have one ladder I would have just the Hailo ladder, it's the most versitile of all my ladders, the tripods etc are nice and light and stable but depending on hedge sizes you may find you need more than one size, ie a 6 ft one and a 10ft one, where as with the hailo you can do both the hedges with the one ladder...
