Kiln dried sand and blowers...

After reading robbie's post below i thought i'd make some of you away if you are not already to be very careful using a blower to scatter the reminants after putting down kiln dried sand on new block paving jobs.

I had to have a new carb in my BR600 after frequently using it to do this job.

There was some clogged in there and even the ultra sonic cleaner at the dealer couldn't shift it.

  • the carb is the problem not the sand there is a fault with them that were suppled from china mine has bean in the dealers for over 6 months u/s cleaned no difference they have quiet a few stihl machines in with the same problem from what i can fathom out the carb were coated with something in manufacture and it started braking down after about a year but stihl are denning that there is a is hue eve though they have changed there suppliers

  • I'm on my 3rd stihl blower carb this year, enough is enough,I've sold it and just ordered a kawasaki blower instead, can't be bothered with the hassle especially with autumn coming
  • I posted a thread a year or so ago re problems we had - 2 blown engines from micro dust by-passing the carb filter and entering the engine on our Vac. We have now been supplied with upgraded filters. Stihl still insist there are no problems with the 'new' design in spite of us running older machines for 5 years or so trouble free.

  • Ahh this will be the same company that didn't want to join landscape Juice then ;-) I hate this big corporate denial stuff we see it time and time again !

Please don't use blowers and kiln dried sand - it is not a good thing for yourselves or anyone else to be inhaling!

  • In some stihl's & other 2 stroke engines there is a mesh in the exhaust that carbs up if the fuel is too rich.

if sand was getting in to the carburettor it would also get to the piston and wear the barrel

  • a brooms a lot cheaper!

  • and a hell of a lot safer. dust masks are a must, the fine particles that you can't even see must carry hundreds of yards when stirred up and you just don't know who is inhaling the stuff, like the muppets who still dry cut out in public areas or in gardens where there may be people downwind
