Have a watch of this video from the TV series The Victorian Kitchen Garden. Harry Dodson talks about Journeyman Gardeners and how they were held in high esteem.

Our industry has always had a low-skilled transient aspect to it but it seems there once was a time when transient gardeners were sort after and made an important contribution to horticulture in the UK.
