i have a 100ps lwb tipper pulling a 14ft triple axel ifor sometimes loaded with 2 tone + and still gets there, very slow on the uptake like a big lorry. God forbid if someone steps infront of me!!
remap it or go for extra power you wont regret it (beside the extra fuel use)
currently have a 125ps (2002)transit tipper when fully loaded it pulls hard a mate had a 90ps version and got rid of it after less than month of towing his 1.5t digger around as didnt have the power
100ps is generally a good engine like others have said, the 125ps will give you a little more grunt and also Torque which is just as important.
One thing to be mindful of is some of the later Transits are front wheel drive (FWD) not Rear wheel drive (RWD) and if you are going to be towing at any point, my personal experience is that a RWD is sometimes better suited to towing heavy loads.
Also be mindful as to what axle ratio is fitted to the vehicle, this will change the vans driving characteristics especially in a 100ps with a high ratio on the motorway!
Also for a remap see van tuner based round by reading way!! He knows his transits!! Just put a 3.2 5pot in his ex rac van!!
all depends on the diff its got mate, the tippers usually come with the highest ratio, meaning it can tow the weight but not got a good top speed. vans are usually a lower diff ratio as theyre mostly bought by delivery, courier companies so spend 75% of theyre life on motorways sitting at 70. as said you can put your reg into etis and it will tell you everything the van has and was fitted with from factory.

So, I'm still looking and I've seen/am looking at picking up a '08 plate transit 350 140 RWD @94K...
It's looking a tad pricey at £7500 (no Vat), but it looks to have a very tidy exterior and good service history.
However, I think I may be paying extra for the colour being Metallic Grey, and it being 140PS.
Any advice on this please?
Is the 140 worth getting if I'm unlikely to tow (I struggle reversing the bast*rd and I'm in central London so reversing and parking will be a nightmare).
Is it being 140PS likely to bump up my insurance premium and MPG (I don't yet know the axle ratio)?
Also, anyone have any thoughts on whether I'm paying more for the colour being non-white? I did think about getting a white one and having it completely 'wrapped', but I'm concerned that the inevitable scrapes that I will pick up working and driving in town will mean this may look terrible quite quickly.

when it comes to towing having rear wheel drive and plenty of torque is more important than high bhp. What sort of weight will you be towing?
To be honest Chris until I (eventually) move to somewhere more trailer friendly (out of central London) I can't really see me towing anything at all.
At the risk of asking (another) silly question, how does one work out the torque of a vehicle then please?
I had a T350 110ps transit. It was RWD and I HATED it! It was very thirsty and screamed above 60mph.
I now have a 100ps T300, FWD, and it is much better. It tows 2T with no problems, I can usually maintain speed easily on most roads, and can sit at 70mph and still be relaxed about it. I'd get a FWD 100ps van if you're not towing 3 tonne.
