hi paul I cant speak highly enough about the guys that's sorted all my insurances out and got everything I need included too
Prices split up accordingly.
I claimed for a blower stolen in front of me at work on site, luckily a saw van not actual theft & description of thief. paid full new google price & ear defenders ,less £100 excess. Highly recommended.
NFU.union no thanks - never !!
Tools are hand tools remember £100?
Machinary upto £1000 in van?
See the recent posts on claiming! I deal with a lot of claims for a car club, with things like repairs costing more than the car is worth, and it is a minefield.
My experience is that there are two things to consider with insurance. The first thing is that insurers are having their prices cut to the bone, so they will try to make any extras they can. Once you've claimed, or notified them of an event that might have lead to a claim, they've got you over a barrel. You have to weigh the cost of claiming, including excess, but also the hassle of declaring the "event" every year for 5 years or more if you try to shop around.
You are also in a spiral of them trying to lessen their losses by selling your claim to the vultures. When my car had a very light dink in a car park, the driver's insurer wanted me to have the car recovered 200 miles to be repaired, supply a courteousy car, and deal with my injury claim. That's HIS insurer, mine was even worse. They make money selling you on, and if you try to lessen the claim by refusing the "extras", they actually lose money: it's mad.
So, what policies are worth taking out? In my experience, some are very likely to be too costly to claim on, and therefore are worth considering very carefully before committing. Key-man cover, income replacement for the self-employed, that awful funeral cover offered by Michael Parkinson, and tool cover for gardeners, are all likely to be prohibitively expensive if they are ever going to pay out.
Public liability should the the most simple insurance to find cheaply. There are high-risk categories, such as use of heat near a property, working at heights (trees over 5m etc.), but I've always found it's the cheapest and easiest insurance to source. I've used Commercial Vehicle Direct for years, and their partner Simply Business for PL cover.
The second point is that insurers have had costs cut because of the easy competition we have with the internet. The good news is you can find a cheaper quote, and they WILL negotiate. If you've been with a company for years they are probably worth staying with for the loyalty, but don't be afraid of bargaining over the renewal.
I've got their tool cover in the van, but they are VERY restrictive about the alarm system fitted. Worth checking....
