Improve your record keeping to avoid a hefty fine

"HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have warned that they are planning to clamp down on around 50,000 small businesses over the course of 2011 for failing to maintain proper records and underpaying corporation tax. They say that 40% of all SMEs keep poor records and are likely to owe tax … could you be one of them" HMRC said it will use its existing powers to deal with the worst cases each year from the second half of 2011 and penalties would be put in place "for significant record keeping failures". http://www.fpb.org/hottips/648/Improve_your_record_keeping_to_avoid_a_hefty_fine.htm via: @craigmcginty

  • It's quite amazing in a period when the UK is relying on it's private sector to get them out of the shit that HMRC can come out with bollocks like this - talk about idiocy, every day the UK government seems to be able to hit new heights.

Sometimes I wonder if it is me who has completely lost the plot and then I talk to people in business that I respect and they are equally as appalled.
  • easy targets ,go after the small guy and let the super rich keep theres ,I wonder how much tax bob diamond will pay on his huge wage +bonus.

bloody crazy as you say Rich the mind boggles mate

  • It is Chris it can only be defined as stupidity. If they knew anything about psychology they would understand how retarded statements like that are and how instead of being thought of as a sector of government that businesses work with the immediate reaction is to say F*** You, which will indirectly have the opposite effect for many people.

Which bit of legislation has changed in order for them to impose a draconian approach to businesses and if nothing has changed then it makes them look like Nazis disguised as government representatives, either way it alienates them yet further from the business owner and THAT has to be a very stupid move.
