HS81 R coked-up muffler

I suspect the exhaust to be coked up on a hedgetrimmer. I have ordered another to stick on. In the meantime a question occurred to me: Can I run it without the muffler in place to see if it operates through the revs sucessfully (or is this some form of sure suicide)?

Im fairly new to engine maintenance and learning more and more as I fix the problems that come up.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks in advance.

  • It will affect the compression, so the engine will run rough, but the main issue will be noise. LOUD is an understatement!
  • Has it got the mesh spark arrester fitted? These coke up fast and can be removed in the UK, unless someone tells me differently!

  • A temp fix maybe to remove and set fire to it to burn off some of the build up..a propane torch is a good weapon of choice for this course of action ;-)

    Cheers
