How much to pay employees?

How much should i offer an employee per day?
The only service i now offer is maintenance, so its not as hard work as hard landscaping or moving top soil all day!

Obviously this depends on:
Experience?
Driving license?
Age?
Attitude? Are they willing to work hard for rewards if the chance arrises!

I have someone in mind. A friend of a friend has suggested a 17 year old, no experience, no driving license, but i do know he has his head on in the right place.

???

  • Depends on what a "day" is for you, for most people its 8 hours, for me its more like 11 hours. Just pay by the hour, for a 17 year old i wouldn't be paying any more than £6 per hour.

  • £50 would be a fair day's wage for an 8-hr stint for him. You could increase it as he proves himself.

  • I was thinking around the £50 per day mark.

My day usually starts at 700- 400 ISH

  • Is £50 per day a fair wage for a youngster with no experience/ license etc etc?

  • 6.08p is the rate for an 18year old and over

  • Ha ha point well taken Rowly!!!!

£7 per hour seems a good starting point with someone of that age and experience.

Your son loves to drive the ride on?? Thats your job!!! I think you need to lay down the law!!!!! LOL

I pay my son £7 per hour  Steve -  sparse experience  but good with a mower, barrow and other basic kit and he loves to drive the ride on...while I do the hard work...

I'd pay him more if -

    a) he listened to me

    b) pulled his trouser up a bit

    c) didn't argue that an I pod and earphones is a good sub for ear defenders.

Bear this in mind when your lad is 18 in 16 years time:-) Oh the joys of fatherhood and employment.

  • pay as appropriate  i pay from £6 p/h to £12 p/h     but max   £60 a day (max 7hrs)

or £35 half day.     maybe a bonus if a well paid job or hard work..

get what u pay for in labour .

  • Pulled his trouser up a bit, that really made me chuckle.

  • For a 17 year old with little to no experience I think £50 is a fair day rate.

Pay around the South East for someone with a experience or some get up and go is from £17 - £20 per hour but they will earn it!
