About the Landscape Juice Network

Founded in 2008. The Landscape Juice Network (LJN) is the largest and fastest growing professional landscaping and horticultural association in the United Kingdom.

LJN's professional business forum is unrivalled and open to anyone within within the UK landscape industry

LJN's Business Objectives Group (BOG) is for any Pro serious about building their business.

For the researching visitor there's a wealth of landscaping ideas, garden design ideas, lawn advice tips and advice about garden maintenance.

I read this today on the BBC site, and whilst the whole row about MP expenses is one thing, the point made that '£1000 a year for gardening is adequate and £2000 a year for cleaning' gives a low impression of a professional service and is just further proof of the lack of support for a professional industry - One wonders whether a plumbers bill would have been questioned at such a high level. There is ongoing debate in many threads on here regarding costings. But the reality is that the current public conception of gardening and maintenance rates is detrimental not just to the industry but the UK landscape as a whole - how can you convince the public of this?

It's a very tough one isn't it - something I have tried to address often since LJ started in 2006. I think we are slowly getting a message across but when it comes to MP's, can anything of sensitivity ever through to them?
  • Whilst many clients understand costs and some even sympathise with the predicament that most in the landscaping and horticultural industry are grossly underpaid, there is definately a core who cannot grasp that the 'chap who does the lawn' will have a dictionary of latin names together with a comprehensive knowledge of the skills needed for the huge selection of plants found in the UK in his head. Does the presence of the RHS and the landscaping accreditation organisations help or hinder in this respect. If there was a government quango heading the industry up would it help or would they be held back by these misconceptions. It makes me really angry so sorry for the rant.

I hope that when you see a really messy garden, with dangerous limbs and head high grass in the future you can simply assume it belongs to an MP

Not a chance Smith has been let off today, so a prime target market must be MP's who have just been told to go and fiddle all that they can and to bill the tax payer. A blatant whitewash.

I covered MP's gardening expenses at the time - It made me angry then and it makes me even angrier now.
  • I have a garden that costs more than that to maintain a MONTH! I cant beleve the lack of knowlege people have over what people need to live on!
