Years ago I was Involved in a conversation that went along the lines of, "if your men hate you then your doing something right", at the time it meant nothing to me, after all I was sat in the canteen with a couple of navi's waiting all day for the rain to stop...........don't think for one minute Jackson didn't miss the sly swig on the daily filled hip flask full of who knows what. Now don't get me wrong in any manner here, these fellas taught me more than I could ever try to explain to you, they were evil to work for but I never let them break me and for that I thank them. For years I too adopted the hard fierce pace with a zero tolerance, after all I have dreams and goals to achieve, and more importantly a raging internal furnace for creating gardens. As with all of us we view things in different perspectives as we learn more from life and professions and I'm not different to any one else.Years ago I didn't respect many people who worked with me,......................... today my thoughts are a total 180 degree turnI take care of my people and respect them fully, I offer bonus 's to them as Its not all about grabbing as much as you can for yourself, is it? It's more of a case of look after those who look after you, which brings me to my question. As a boss of any company does the thought of how you staff view you concern you ?, lets face it most are not stupid and will subconsciously learn about how much for materials , they'll be looking at their money, assuming what your on, looking at time scales etc, etc , etc and start building there own pricing system, as you get busier more details are left with those you entrust to carry the flag whilst you continue to create , present and sell your product, liaise and all the every day occurrences involved when running your own business , of which your staff have no idea of what goes on behind the scenes to ensure the wheels keep moving.Second question is has any member of LJN experienced a member of staff who has jacked in because they think there earning the company's money, as yet I have'nt because they wont, I will.Kerry

  • I have a time clock and pay my staff by the hour if they are late it costs them money as well, it also stops people from forgeting to fill in time sheets daily.
I work longer hours than my staff and try to look after them the best I can, your workforce is your best resource, look after them as well as you can.

Yeah treat the staff as you would like to be treated but dont become to friendly with them; as I have found out to be a problem; they say they like working for you but take the piss by leaving early, getting in late, not "remembering" to do things.

Some have had to leave and guess what, they dont remember that we were supposed to be firends?!

I pay well but am starting to realise that this isnt the best method on getting good workers!
