    1/ Start by knowing your own costs - I've attached LJN's free Hourly Rate Calculator.

    2/ Break the job down into logical, manageable sections and price using the figures calculated from above

    3/ Ensure your Quote is detailed and clear

    4/ Submit a the Quote based upon the above using a fixed price (my recommendation - ie not an hourly rate)

    5/ Smile as you get job :)

            £5 an hour Richard? Surely you can shave a little off that amount, what about if you use my mower? It's a good one, paid £25 at a car boot , I've got an extension lead and everything???

                    Oh, now that's a problem, neither do I, my mate will pick you up on his way to work, then take you home when he finishes. Thinking about it I may only need a half hour slot, by my reckoning that makes your payment £2.25, will you take a cheque?
