Customer of mine have 20 yrs old masport rotorola 19inch.
Its been very reliable. Bar doesn't get in the way. Picks up well in the wet. The only thing that let's it down is it's really slow.
I've been using Masports for 20+ years....... brilliant simple design with just a belt drive taken from the side PTO on the Briggs engine. Amazing machines that just go on and on with minimal... even none..... maintenance! Unfortunately, things have changed with new models now with some sort of gearbox invloved and made elsewhere.
Thanks Graham, yes that side pto briggs engine was also on Hayters, briggs stopped making it sometime ago unfortunately.
Tried out a masport rotorola the grass box retaining arrangement along with the bracing bar makes it very difficult to get the box off and on it is also about the size of my jacket pocket ! These so called designers need to do some work at the sharp end for a few weeks and get off those drawing boards! Masport have gone through several changes of ownership and are now owned by Alko. Can't find any info on where they are made .
Anyway have bought a Stiga 950 vr which at £819 inc vat will claim the vat back which brings it down to well under £700 .Has a very large discharge chute and variable speed. Should do our small areas and can throw it away if necessary after one season.
The Mountfield 505 is the same machine , bought the Stiga as it has a Stiga engine and can get non gen carb , the Mountfield has the new Honda gcv 200 x engine, non gen carbs not available , gen £200 !
Dismissed the Honda for reason above along with very narrow discharge chute, don't want green hand disease again!
Just need to find a non gen blade to get rid of that stupid twin clip blade at £50 replacement cost, anyone know where I can find one?
