Honda Izy or......?

I was all ready to order a new Izy as my last one needed a new deck until I remembered that it wasn't the best at bagging wet grass compared to my viking so now I'm thinking I may order one of the Viking 4 wheel models instead the cheaper ones as my rough cut anywhere mower for smaller gardens has anybody used these mowers ? And what are the alternatives other than the Viking /Stihl for similar cost ? Good Wet  grass collection is a must ! Tia !

  • Etesia is the best, although it comes at a price. Personally I wouldnt be without my Izy, purely for it's reliability. Just my opinion, mind.

  • The quality of the push Izy's is much poorer now than on the originals. Plastic bushes instead of wheel bearings etc. Not sure regards the self propelled. I find Toro autodrive machines pretty good... Not brilliant for wet though. Vikings now branded as Stihl.

  • I had a Viking a while back and I never really took to it. I am now on my second Honda Izzy which is reliable and is suitable for my needs. Etesia is a good brand but can be expensive and the Honda hydrostatic models are rxcellent but again expensive but both quality mowers.

    • Cheers Andrew the Etesia are well out of my league I'm just going for the Cheaper Stihl as I know they really do well with the wet stuff !

My Izy 21" Variable speed one (18 months old), has been great so far.. did masses of work with it last year and great to have the mulch option.  Really quick mower too.

My only real issue is the front wheels seem to now have lots of play in them.. and the grass flap slowly got bent and and torn.  They dont have any bearings in the front  so im guessing its going to need some new wheels soon..

    • Cheers mate I had a Viking 545vr and it was brilliant in the wet....unlike my Hayter pro 41 upgrade...I just want a knockabout mower for the cheaper lawns that's light and collects in all conditions the Stihl 248T is looking favourite at the moment

      • Graham, is the Stihl 248T really that good collecting damp/ wet grass? If so I might be tempted to get that model myself. Radmore & Tuckers sell it for around £300.

      • Hi Graham, I've used the Viking 545vr for the last two seasons and it's been great, it fill's the grass box everytime unlike my 16" Izy. The plastic grass box deffinetly helps along with the high lift blade.

You mention the Hayter 41 pro is rubbish in the wet, is it realy that bad I thought it was supposed to be a big improvement with the Honda engine and high lift blade, I put a deposit on one a couple of weeks ago and will be collecting an April.

        • Hi Chris hand on heart I really wish I'd gone and bought a brand new Viking VR545 instead of the Hayter pro the Hayter is fine for weekly mows but its terrible in anything that's slightly long or wet a lot of my customers have Green thumb etc but only want fortnightly cuts no problem for the Viking but a very different story for the Hayter....

          Regards Graham

          • Graham, how new is your Hayter Pro ? Cheers Andrew
