That's a worry. I've had at least 4 of these engines previously and never had a problem starting them. Like I said, from cold it starts a treat. From use it starts ok. It's that in between hot and cold that is the problem. I'm going to take it back and see if they can solve it.
We had a similar problem a few years ago with a B&S engine; it could be "solved" ie started if you reached under the front engine cover and manually trigger the auto choke spring whilst pulling the start cord. Not easy! Was a design fault rectified at the next iteration of the engine.
If it’s an GCV engine with full auto choke, they can be problematical and have been discussed on LJN before.
Also believe there have been various fixes under ‘warranty’ ....
Thanks Gary. I'll take it in tomorrow. Like I say, I've always found the GCV a great engine. Hopefully it just needs a tweak.
Please keep us informed on the outcome
Just as an update. The machine appears to be working ok now! I'm not taking it for granted though. On Monday I've got a load of smallish lawns, all in the same area. That will be the real test as I will be trying starting it from warm, this was the problem. Another mow and go guy I know, suggested the problem may be that the machine had been standing idle at the suppliers for a while. That sounds too simple for me to believe.
I promised an update. The machine has started perfectly all week! There is no point in taking it back now. I'm starting to think it may have been simply teething problems, I can't see any logic to it but it seems fine now.
