Honda hedge cutter scorching hedge

I have a Honda HHH25D hedge trimmer and I am very pleased with it, despite it being a heavy beast its quieter than a 2 stroke, starts wel, has a long reach and doesnt use much petrol. In fact, when mine got nicked by some low life scum last year, I replaced like with like.

This year I have noticed that hedges I trimmed are showing scorch marks from the exhaust. Clearly where I am just cutting the face quickly its not an issue but anywhere I have had to move slowly to get detail right it has damaged the foliage.

I have contacted Honda and they have said go to the local technician but thats not very convenient as I would have to take tie off the job.

I can find no description of any sort of deflector and went to a showroom yesterday to compare mine with theirs and they are the same (before anyone points out that i shoudl have spoken to a tchnician there were none in the workshop yesterday).

Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you sort it out?

Thanks

Ted

    • A good idea but the blade is keen and you can see the "wash" from the exhaust as clear marks. On Box it shows as white patches and on a yew its a brown stain but only in a small area, ie where I was fidling about in a tricky bit

  • Just a thought but could it be scorched from contact with a red hot gearbox? Hedges may be more susceptible to damage during this drought?. A few years ago I put my hedgecutter on a lawn every time I moved the ladder. Even tho it was only a few seconds there was a neat row of gearbox shaped scorch marks the following week.

    • they are not regular shaped marks but more oval scorches. They are similar in size and shape but not identical and I can see where I have lingered longer in a spot as there is more damage.
